The Laurel Fire Company's Fire Police Unit’s function within the Fire Company is to maintain the protection and safety of Fire/EMS personnel and vehicles while at an emergency scene. The Fire Police Officers job is to insure the protection of the working personnel, vehicles and equipment of the Fire Company. At the same time an officer must insure the safety of the public around a scene. Laurel's fire police are sworn in by the mayor of Windsor so they are and have full police powers at a scene. So yes they can write tickets.
Traffic Control is the main job of the Fire Police unit. They maintain the follow of traffic around a scene, to allow quick access to the scene of emergency vehicles. Sometimes this requires the closure and detour of a road or highway. Fire Police are Sworn Officers of Windsor Boro, and do have the rights of a Police Officer at a scene. Pennsylvania Law Title 75 Sections 3327 and 3102 provides for fines for people who fail to obey Fire Police instructions or indications relating to traffic flow.
Fire Police are there to provide safety to both the public and Fire Company personnel. When you see a Fire Police Officer please pay attention to their instructions, and signs.
For the safety of the Fire Personnel please slow down and be alert around or through a scene.
Next Training April 20th at Station 13-1 (old 35). Randy Rice will be there.
